X Greetings! You are not currently logged in, but please don't let that stop you from voting up any videos you like. :)
Even I've been guilty of it once or twice, but nobody cares that you don't find the comedian/comedy routine funny. Everybody knows that what is funny is subjective and relative to culture. If you don't find something funny, great, move on. Making the statement that you don't think something is funny, is as pointless as making the statement that you don't like a song or an artist. Without a reason other than just your own taste, you're just being a troll.

I agree. If it's personal opinion of a routine, don't downvote. I reserve my downvoting for cute cat videos actual siftly offenses, ie: rickrolls and pointless frat party dipshittery.

P.S: dipshittery is the new word of the day.

I didn't like this sift talk.

Seriously though, some people want explanations for someones downvotes and when I'm in the mood I give it, even if it's just "I didn't care for this". So it's a bit of a two-edged sword.

Couldn't agree more. I'm truly hoping that the sift doesn't get infected with troll-itis like youtube and so many other sites have.

um, I love you rottenseed, so I wanna say that #ahem# upvoting AND downvoting are BOTH, by definition, a means of expressing one's own taste. I like that both are available, and I like trolls (people who vote based on who the submitter IS, not what the vid IS) because we can diss 'em and tar and feather 'em.

oh, and I forgot to say that I actually adhere to that policy...
the one that says "if you don't LIKE it, don't vote..."
AND....please upvote randomize's comment if you think that the downvote button should be replaced with a big red-lettered "dipshittery!" sign. THAT would make people think twice. lol

Laura, thats a good point. (puts on hypothetically speaking cap) If I upvote because I liked the video, why can't I downvote because I DON'T like the video? Hmm???

Nothing stops people from expressing strong dislike of vids, no matter how much you like it. I recommend taking that as an invitation to spread the vid to people who might like it more (as opposed to the more normal, "leave your video alone and let nature take its course" approach) if you really think the downvote's unwarranted yet your vid is lost in queue. Or post a comment to one of the big "vids to promote" lists. asking for inclusion. Please do, I can only find so many pqueued/discarded videos at a time.

Having said that, my personal policy - which I think many people subscribe to whether or not they've even heard of mine - is to be a bit more cautious with downvotes for queued vids, and a lot faster on the downvote for anything out of queue, especially top 15 vids, where a downvote has little effect but does send a strong message towards your opinion with regards to *how popular/"quality"* you think a video deserves to be rated.

my point is about having a consistent policy (to be more effective than everyone having their own policy)
that might not be what people want to do, but it would (i think) make the Sift better.

I rue the day I post something bland enough to be enjoyed by all.
